After eight months, the dispute between the musicians of the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (OSB) and management has been resolved. 36 musicians had been fired for refusing to re-audition for their jobs.

Under the settlement, these musicians can return to work with the same salary and benefits, including pay retroactive to their termination, but in a new orchestra administered by the OSB Foundation. Roberto Minczuk will not conduct the ensemble and there will be no mandatory performance evaluations. The CBA is valid through August 31, 2013.

Members of the new orchestra may also be invited to perform with the original OSB, but can opt out of concerts conducted by Minczuk.

The International Federation of Musicians (FIM) writes:

It is a great success for the musicians’ trade union SINDMUSI, as well as for its President Déborah Cheyne, who was amongst the 33 dismissed musicians. It also confirms the crucial and even increasing importance of international solidarity. FIM’s call for boycott of the auditions that were organised to replace the dismissed musicians played a key role in this process.
